Jane Patten has led and managed Peace House since 2004. She has over 25 years’ experience developing and managing programs for community-based organizations, beginning as a program director and member of the governing board with a YMCA in Ohio and ending with her management of a New England-based outdoor education program before moving to Utah in 2004.
As Executive Director of Peace House, Jane is recognized as a leader in the Utah nonprofit community, serving on the Executive Board of the UDVC (Utah Domestic Violence Council) and the Steering Committee of SWAVO (the Statewide Advocates for Victims Organization).
In 2008, Park City accepted Jane into the Park City Leadership Class, where she brings further recognition and understanding to the important role that Peace House plays in the community. Jane has a BS from Charter Oak College in New Britain, Connecticut.
Bill Erickson, Interim Chair/Treasurer. Bill brings a wealth of financial and nonprofit experience and knowledge to the roles of Chair and Treasruer. He is a Certified Publid Accountant in three states, having been a principal with an international accounting firm early in his career. He holds both a BBA and MBA from Kent State University.
Most recently, Bill retired after 25 years as President of the Utah Housing Corporation where he developed over $7 billion of affordable housing opportunities across Utah. As Chair of the Board, Bill wants to help Peace House "achieve its community service goals and provide safe, decent shelter to those in pain during a period of crisis".
Michael McCarthy, Vice-Chair. Mike retired from the US Air Force as a Major General, having commanded air wings and flown combat missions in Vietnam and Desert Storm. After retirement, he became Deputy Director of the George C. Marshall Center for Security Studies in Germany. He holds a Masters degree with post-graduate studies in international relations and is a graduate of the National War College.
Mike brings his leadership and executive management skills to bear on helping make the organization more efficient and accountable. He also engages his passion for civic involvement with his membership in the Sunrise Rotary Club and volunteer work with the National Abilities Center. He believes that volunteerism makes the community a better place to live, work and play.
Joan Alper, Member Committee Chair. Joan is a Tony Award® winning producer and partner in TheatreDreams, a theatre management and production company. She was Vice President of Business Development for BRI International for many years prior to joining her husband in the entertainment business. At BRI, Joan coordinated and implemented sales and marketing strategies for them in the UK, Europe and Japan.
A love of skiing brought her to Park City from the east coast, but it was the summers that convinced Joan and her husband to become full-time residents here in 1994. Joan learned of the Peace House mission and decided to become more involved, joining the board in 2007. As Chair of the Member Committee, Joan actively seeks qualified, energetic people to serve Peace House on the Governing Board or Advisory Council.
Carol Kotler, Secretary. Carol is a long-time Utah resident who was educated at the University of Utah and Westminster College and subsequently co-founded SnapLock Industries in early 1990. Her professional background involves office systems and training, including the production of technical and procedural manuals.
Carol has “an empathy and compassion for women and children in this (domestic abuse) situation” and believes “Peace House is a very vital and necessary part of the community”. Carol joined the board in 2009; as an experienced event planner, Carol will be actively involved in leading the Peace House calendar of community events.
Michael Lee joined the Peace House board in 2009 to help resolve the issue of domestic violence and abuse which “is one of the greatest unrecognized, overlooked and ignored issues in the family and community”. Mike brings over 30 years in the securities and investment banking industry, recently retiring from Thomas Weisel Partners as Principal.
Mike has a BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Utah and an MBA from Brigham Young University.
Angie Burwell Kerr is an independent consultant specializing in performance improvement, change management and training for Fortune 500 clients . She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Texas A&M University and is certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt.
Angie joined the board of Peace House in 2009 to further her interest in helping solve the problem of domestic violence in our communities, which she first became aware of as a volunteer for Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas during the late 1990s. Angie believes that "awareness will create a world where fewer women have to live in fear every day".
Jane Marantz retired to the Park City area from Bethesda, Maryland in 2005 to indulge her passion for skiing, biking, and hiking. Not long after arriving in her new community, she accepted an invitation to join the Peace House board.
As a seasoned sales, marketing, and recruitment executive for a number of companies in a variety of industries, Jane has learned to anticipate and initiate needed change. During her tenure as Chair, Peace House has undertaken a number of important strategic initiatives, including the development and apoption of a plan for increasing the organization's impact and relevance in the community.
