How to Help

Volunteers support Peace House in a variety of ways, from helping at the office and working as a trained victim advocate at the shelter to helping out with fundraising and other events.

Schools Program Support

Currently, we have one part-time staff person to deliver the specialized curriculum to local schools. Anyone with an interest in helping expand this important program with their time and skills is encouraged to complete an application and contact our Schools Program Supervisor.

Shelter Support

Volunteers help out at the shelter with both client-related and non-client-related tasks.

Non-client-related tasks include housekeeping, light office work, grocery shopping, gardening, building maintenance and others.

Client-related tasks include translation for non-English speakers, pet care, babysitting, transportation, resume preparation and career counseling, computer training, personal grooming, personal finance education, and helping negotiate bureaucracies, to name a few.

Additionally, some volunteers have completed state-mandated training to become qualified as Shelter Advocates. Advocates work a regular shift, taking hot-line calls, doing intake for new families and in other ways providing direct client support services.

Administrative Support

Separate from the shelter, Peace House has an office at Prospector Square in downtown Park City where many of the administrative functions and out-of-shelter programs take place. We are always grateful for assistance with administrative tasks, such as book-keeping, data entry, reception, copying and filing.

We can also use people with specialized skills such as webmaster, copy writing, graphic layout and design, public relations, grant writing, database management, IT, audit prep, etc.

Booths, Events & Board Support

Peace House attends many public events (such as the Park Silly Sunday Market) with an information booth.  Peace House Boosters (specially-trained volunteers) are always needed to staff these booths.  We also hold fund raising and other events, for which volunteer help is always appreciated. These are both great ways to help Peace House if you enjoy interacting with the general public.

The Board of Directors has standing and ad hoc committees (such as Finance, Fundraising, etc) which plan and organize activities with strategic impact. These committees often include non-board-members, particularly those with specialized skills. Serving on a board committee, you can see the inner workings of a nonprofit from a very different perspective.

To volunteer for the Shelter, Admin Support, or Events & Board Support, please complete an application and contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
